Syrian Electronic Army hacks Microsoft's official Xbox Support Twitter account

The Syrian Electronic Army hacked Microsoft's official Xbox Support Twitter account over the weekend as a part of a larger campaign targeted towards the corporation. The series of posts by the SEA included tweets such as "Syrian Electronic Army Was Here via @Official_SEA16 #SEA" and "From #SEA.. Game On! via @Official_SEA16." The tweets were deleted from the Xbox Support account within an hour of going live. The SEA also posted a screenshot via its Twitter account apparently showing that the group had access to the Xbox Support account. The SEA also targeted the official Microsoft News Twitter account, as well as the corporation's TechNet Blogs. A Microsoft spokesperson told Mashable that it is aware of the attacks against the Xbox Support and Microsoft News Twitter accounts and "can...

Titanfall maps can be packed with nearly 50 combatants including AI, players and Titans

A 12-player headcount in matches of Titanfall is the sweet spot for the game, the title's lead designer tells Polygon. Any less and things threaten to get boring. Any more and the game becomes so intense it's off-putting.But that doesn't mean matches will be limited to teams of six running around trying to take one another out. Each map also supports up to 12 AI-controlled characters per side and each of a match's six player-controlled characters can, in theory, have a Titan following them like over-protective, weaponized pets. So counting AI, counting players and counting Titans in guard or follow mode, a match can feature nearly 50 characters trying to kill one another. But the decision to keep the player count to six per side wasn't based as much on worries about a crowded...

Making money as a Zelda speed runner

Cosmo Wright is one of the few people in the world who can make a living playing video games. But unlike the professional gamers who battle against other humans in DOTA 2 and StarCraft 2, Wright's renown comes from capitalizing on the glitches of childhood classics. Wright is one of the most popular video game speed runners. He tries to defeat games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Castlevania 64 and Super Monkey Ball as quickly as possible. Aside from having impeccable mechanical skill, Wright's knowledge of a game's coding flaws — and how to exploit them — means that he can do things that seem impossible. In Zelda games, the hero Link can blast across mountains by standing near bombs, come back from the dead and teleport across space and time. These newfound...

The GIF, which you can view below, features a pregnant cat giving birth to her first litter while the father looks on. Although kittens change when they "evolve or grow up," the post reads, both cats show similar traits to their parents. "The rest is unknown in the GIF," the post reads. "We don't know how the kitten will act, what it will look like when he grows up. His head, eyes and tail will change when he hits puberty, his nose might appear and his voice may change." As revealed previously, a cat's development will also be impacted by its personal stats, environment, personality and more. Mew-Genics is currently being developed for Steam, iOS and Android....

Ys: Memories of Celceta review: don't forget

Ys: Memories of Celceta is developer Nihon Falcom's first shot at the big leagues. Nihon Falcom has been around for over 30 years, and it's been developing iterations of the Ys series for over 25 of them. But all that work has remained relatively obscure — even the best games in the Ys series are footnotes in RPG history. The same fate may await Memories of Celceta ... but it shouldn't. It captures the nostalgic essence of classic RPGs, but it trades the sometimes clunky mechanics of older games for a deep, responsive combat system. Nihon Falcom has built the most approachable and smartly designed Ys game ever. Ys: Memories of Celceta technically serves as a reboot of two 1993 releases — Ys 4: Dawn of Ys and Ys 4: Mask of the Sun. That history is less intimidating than it...

Razer tries its hand at wristbands with the Nabu SmartBand

In addition to the massive, ambitious Project Christine modular gaming PC concept, Razer had another new product to reveal at this year's CES and it's not what you might expect. Alongside dozens of other products in a category known as "wearables" is Razer's offering: a still-in-development wristband called Nabu, an unusual match for a company better known for gaming PCs and peripherals. The Nabu is a sort of hybrid between a smart watch, delivering smart phone-paired notifications, and a fitness band like the Nike+ FuelBand or the FitBit Flex, tracking the usual data points like pedometer and sleep data. Dual LED displays split the device's notifications into public and private, on the outside and inside of your wrist respectively. Thanks to the Nabu's use of Bluetooth low energy,...

'Prototype' Sony goggles add head tracking, pale beside Oculus Rift

While the Oculus Rift was busy winning Best in Show from our pals at The Verge (for the second year in a row!), Sony was showing off the latest version of its HMZ-T3 head-mounted display equipped with a module on the back of the headband that, despite its small size, enables one massive feature: head tracking. The sign at the booth called it a "technical prototype" and the representative helping booth goers into and out of the headset was quick to reiterate that status. And it's a good thing that's being highlighted because at a staggering $999 — and that's without head tracking! — the HMZ-T3's experience absolutely pales in comparison to the still-in-development Oculus Rift. Oculus is at CES showing off the latest revision of its still pre-release headset — this revision is...

Toshiba bringing on-demand PC gaming to cloud-connected TVs this summer

Later this year, Toshiba will bring a line of televisions to North America that support cloud-based game-streaming, courtesy of the GameNow service from Taiwan-based Ubitus. At CES 2014, Toshiba had its line of smart TVs on display, showcasing GameNow with the Windows PC version of Street Fighter X Tekken. The service will feature an array of Capcom-published PC games, like Devil May Cry 4, Dead Rising 2 and Resident Evil 5, as well as Warner Bros. games, including Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. We played a few rounds of Street Fighter X Tekken, with a pair of wireless Logitech controllers, and found the experience playable, but laggy — unsuitable for a fighting game, but perhaps passable with other titles. GameNow maker Ubitus has partnerships in place with Sega, Konami...
