A shocking interview!
Which ones mattered?
Breaks hearts, not blocks.
Our hats are off to you, great PC games of 2012! The last 12 months have left us an outstanding crop of games to remember them by, and today we call out and recognize the very best of the best. These are the games we believe will be talked about whenever 2012 comes up in the future, and will influence the games of tomorrow to be better. It's a winners' list that contains sequels and original games, single-player and multiplayer, big-budget blockbusters and shoestring indies, and shoe-ins and surprises. We couldn't be happier. There's no need to be greedy this holiday season. Why not spend a little of that money you were going to drop on some game you'll never find time to play on a friend? Of course, that doesn't mean you can't still be frugal. So, go ahead and head over to Amazon's Digital Holiday Deals page to do some last-minute shopping for your gaming loved ones. Read More »
Oh, Grand Theft Auto characters. You guys always get into the most absurd of situations. You start off as typical thieves and crooks rolling around in the streets of San Andreas or Liberty City or wherever, and then you end up flying fighter jets, swimming with sharks, and tooling around in a submarine. All of which are in these new Grand Theft Auto 5 screens. Read More »
If you guys haven't been paying attention to the indie game section on Steam during the holiday sales, you're really missing out. Sure, the main page has Mass Effect 1 and 2 for $10 and the complete Company of Heroes for $12.50, but Dustforce and Sanctum for $5 each is downright bonkers. Oh, and the flawed, super underrated Zeno Clash for a buck? Come on guys, what are you waiting for? Read More »
With the absurd number of really great games that came out this year, I wouldn't blame anyone for forgetting exactly what happened to Isaac Clarke. Thankfully, Visceral Games has seen fit to give us a recap of the Dead Space series before Dead Space 3 drops in February. Read More »
For a brief moment, let's forget about THQ's financial troubles and the uncertainty surrounding Company of Heroes 2's release. (It does look like it's still on track for the time being.) Instead, let's just bask in the glow of snow-covered houses lit ablaze by flamethrower-wielding Soviets. Read More »
In hindsight, it's surprising this issue didn't come up way sooner: it seems that the US Patent and Trade Office sent a letter to The War Z developer OP Productions (parent of Hammerpoint) and publisher Arktos Entertainment stating that the request to trademark the name "The War Z" has been suspended because it too closely resembles Paramount Pictures' upcoming movie World War Z (which is loosely based on the 2006 novel of the same name). The kicker: OP has apparently known about this for about six weeks, before it launched The War Z on Steam and removed all alpha or beta labels from its site. Read More »
Ultima is an amazingly resilient franchise. After all, how many game series started in the early '80s and remained successful for two decades? I actually don't know the answer to that question, it was rhetorical. The point is, Ultima is a revered name in PC gaming, and right now, all those games are on sale on GOG.com for a little under $9 (or 81 cents per game). Read More »
Show of hands: Who else looks forward to the Christmas Steam sale more than they do the actual holiday? It may sound gluttonous, but I find myself spending more money on cheap games for myself than gifts for the loved ones. Does that make me a bad person? Yes? Well screw it, I'm still buying Anno 2070 for myself. Read More »
My simpleton brain thought that "Moebius" referred to mobility -- the amount of locations we'd get to travel to in point-and-click goddess Jane Jensen's next adventure, maybe. That is, until I learned that her next game was in fact named after the "Moebius Theory," some hogwash about loops in time and ripples in space-fabric (how much would that go for on an MMO's auction house, I wonder?). Okay, so apparently there's a fair bit I need to catch up on in the world of Greek philosophy, but hey -- if these new screenshots and concept art pieces from Moebius show us anything, it's that my first guess wasn't too far off the mark, either. You reckon Aion's all about whimsy and angel wings? Think again. With names like "Lunadium" and "Katalamize," it's probably fair to speculate that this handful of new instances, coming to Aion's next big content update, won't just be some sissy walk in fairy-strewn woods. Read More »
Since it was announced at the VGAs, we've been anticipating our punishment in Dark Souls 2 with an odd, eager sort of trepidation. While the first trailer was pretty much full CG with nary a glimpse of gameplay, I have to admit it set the scene really well -- and even if this concept art still isn't showing us any game, I'm impressed by its (hideous) prettiness, and am curious to see how these concepts will take form in-game. Heart of the Swarm's been in development for frickin' ages. I tinkered with it when it was first announced back in June, and now, six months later, it's still half a lifetime away. I think its long pre-release hibernation is testament to how hard Blizzard have been working on tweaking the StarCraft 2 expansion, though, and it seems they're finally getting ready to show it off to more people ahead of the March 12th, 2013 release date -- the doorway to the beta is slowly widening before us, bathing us in the warm glow of zerg-infested sci-fi goodness. Find out how to get a jump on the competition as soon as, well, now. Read More »
Starting today, MMO publisher-giant Perfect World is offering a bonus to buyers of Zen, its currency for free-to-play games. You'll get 15% more Zen than you pay for, which players of games such as Star Trek Online, RaiderZ, and Champions Online probably won't have anything to complain about -- but before you bust out your wallet, there are a couple of things to take note of. There are so many MMORPGs in the world, and -- no, wait. Each is a world of its own. And if you're crazy enough to want to dip your toes into all of them, just like yours truly, then you'd have no time for the real world. Personally, when it comes to considering new MMOs I find myself weighing up the investment costs -- both that of time and money -- and with the current sale on Guild Wars 2, the gobbling-up of my time seems slightly less tragic.
