Original Duke Nukem Platformers Hit Good Old Games

By Katie Williams | PC News | Dec 7, 2012 1:47 PM | 0 Comments

Duke Nukem was a defining point in my gaming career. People look at me funny when I say that, because these days, the name echoes hollowly in the wake of the travesty that was Duke Nukem Forever. I've lamented before over the two original platforming Duke games being buried in history -- but today, they've reappeared on Good Old Games, ready to kick butt on PC again. Read More »

There's Not Much Sunshine On Mars

By Katie Williams | PC News | Dec 7, 2012 1:24 PM | 0 Comments

You may remember the cheerful screenshots we posted for the upcoming Mars: War Logs a few weeks ago. Though we didn't have much info on the gameplay back then, I think a lot of us could agree that the Riddick-esque world looked awesome. Now a trailer's out, and it sure throws some interesting, pretty elements into the red planet's slums and grime. Read More »

Sportsfriends In Need

By Katie Williams | PC News | Dec 7, 2012 12:48 PM | 0 Comments

I'll never forget my first game of J.S. Joust, a local-multiplayer videogame with a physical component that encourages ninja stances and the provoked flailing of your opponents' limbs. It's something I wish more people could play, because nothing rocks a party harder than jabbing a pal in the ribs -- and that just may happen, thanks to the Kickstarter set up by developers Die Gute Fabrik. The campaign ends this weekend, and if successful, will fund the completion and publishing of Joust as well as three other zany multiplayer-based indie games. Read More »

Spring 2013 will see the release of Shades of Darkness, which ushers in the old hero Raelag for two campaigns retelling the world-defining Dark Events in Ashan's history. Read More »

PlanetSide 2 Double XP Weekend Starts Today

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Dec 7, 2012 7:26 AM | 0 Comments

PlanetSide 2 is one big game. It's also had big problems trying to handle the many players who have logged in for sci-fi battle since its launch. Good news, though, Sony Online Entertainment says it has stabilized the ship, and to thank those who have continued to fight the good fight despite the issues, it's running a double XP weekend that's set for kick-off today right around noon PST. It's Not the End for End of Nations

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Dec 7, 2012 6:45 AM | 0 Comments

My actions-per-minute are woefully slow, but I still love me some real-time strategy. That's why I was so excited to go hands-on with RTS/MMO mash-up End of Nations at E3 way back in June. I walked away from the experience with one distinct impression: that is one of the least user-friendly RTS games I've ever played. The UI was just awful and the many units from the various factions were tough to tell apart. It appears I wasn't alone in my concerns. Publisher Trion Worlds has taken over development from Petroglyph after the planned End of Nations open beta was delayed indefinitely. Read More »

Release Dated: Crysis 3

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Dec 7, 2012 6:17 AM | 0 Comments

We know that Crysis 3 will launch with DirectX 11 support and feature PC-optimized graphics that Crytek boasts will melt lesser hardware. That's all well and good, but what about gameplay? Will we have the smaller, less option-filled and exploration-friendly levels of Crysis 2, or will we return to the open, creativity-encouraging feel of the original? I'm hoping for the latter, and we'll all find out which direction Crytek took its FPS when Crysis 3 ships in February. Read More »

8 Things That Surprised Me About BioShock Infinite

By Dan Stapleton | PC Previews | Dec 7, 2012 5:01 AM | 0 Comments

As I'm sure you most of you do now, I had a lot of expectations going into playing the first two and a half hours of BioShock Infinite. After the first BioShock -- a hell of an act to follow -- and the glimpses we've seen thus far, I felt like I had a pretty good idea of where Irrational was going with this one. Well, as Creative Director Ken Levine is so fond of pointing out, in a BioShock game, pretty much nothing is as it seems. Here are the ways in which BioShock took me by surprise. Read More »

BioShock Infinite Delayed To March 26th, 2013

By Dan Stapleton | PC News | Dec 7, 2012 5:00 AM | 0 Comments

Irrational Games' Creative Director Ken Levine says he wants to polish BioShock Infinite a little more before release, and has delayed its arrival from February 23rd to March 26th. I for one am totally outraged -- I mean, what the hell am I supposed to play until then? Read More »

Company of Heroes 2 Dev Diary Talks History

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Dec 6, 2012 1:18 PM | 0 Comments

To borrow a joke from the great Eddie Izzard, Hitler never played Risk when he was a kid. If he did, he probably would have never attempted to take Russia and as such would never have entered some of the bloodiest conflicts in World War II. But that did happen, so we'll experience it in Company of Heroes 2. In this developer diary, Relic Entertainment talks a bit about how that history has influenced their upcoming RTS. Read More »

Buy Hotline Miami, It's Half Off on Steam

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Dec 6, 2012 11:24 AM | 0 Comments

So, Hotline Miami is pretty darn great. So great, in fact, that IGN has nominated it as one of its best games of 2012. To celebrate, the fine folks at Dennaton games have dropped the price on Steam to $5. That's 50% off, if you're counting. Read More »

Steam to Offer Distribution Deals to IGF Finalists

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Dec 6, 2012 10:50 AM | 0 Comments

The problem with being indie is how difficult it is to get your name out to the world. There are thousands of indie games being worked on at any given moment, many of which make their way to the annual IGF competition. When one makes its way onto Steam, it gets a huge amount of awareness. Valve knows this, and that's why they're planning to offer all IGF Main Competition finalists distribution deals on their super-popular store. That's awfully kind of them. Read More »

Watch Peter Molyneux Get Excited About Godus

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | Dec 6, 2012 10:11 AM | 0 Comments

Oh, Peter Molyneux, you charming so-and-so. Even when you're slaughtering dozens of your games' trusting inhabitants, I can't stay mad at you. In this new video showing off some very early prototype footage of 22 Cans' GODUS in action, we get a glimpse of his directorial style, particularly in his interactions with developer Gary Leach. It's a fascinating watch. Read More »

Make the Leap to Dishonored's Dunwall City Trials

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | Dec 6, 2012 7:55 AM | 0 Comments

There's a quick sequence in this first Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials trailer that caught my eye. Corvo is navigating through the funky bizarro world of The Outsider, and to reach his goal, he leaps, and at the peak of his jump, blinks to a small floating island. Looks like some first-person platforming fun. All that's missing are glowing question mark boxes that dole out magic mushrooms. Read More »
